2018 off to a great start!

First of all, this winter in Utah has me in the best mood! Seriously, it's about 50 degrees this whole week and SUNNY! I'm loving it so much. Clark and I went night skiing with our friends one night this week and it was seriously so nice and warm! I love it. Clark on the other hand might not as much, since the snow isn't as great this year. Oops ;)

Clark and I have been waking up earlier before work and trying to work out  in the morning so we have time after we get home in the evenings to do what we want to do. It also makes it ten times easier when both of us are getting up. I still love my gym classes at night that I will go to once or twice a week. I've been experimenting in the kitchen more often than I'd like to admit. I've been finding these awesome healthy easy recipes from Lillie. I've been trying to have ready-to- eat foods in the fridge more often so that at night for dinner or for lunches at school and work we can grab and go. My mother in law, Stacy, gave me an InstaPot for Christmas and my life changed. Dinner ready in minutes is the best thing ever.

Besides my frequent cooking episodes, Clark's really enjoying school and liking his Anatomy class. His current favorite read is "The TB12 Method" by Tom Brady. We'll see how long this extreme health kick lasts (we just went to the store to get ginger root and kale for a smoothie in the morning..) Here are some pics of what we’ve been up to these last few weeks. Disclaimer... most of these pics contain food 🙈

Update on Dental School

I have to write in this more often! My new goal for 2018 :) This is a long over due post but on December 1st we found out Clark got accepted to Univeristy of Washington for dental school! It's in Seattle and we are so pumped! We can't wait to live in a city and start this new adventure. He starts end of July! So happy we're moving in the summer and not the winter 😅We got some new Seattle rain gear for Christmas so we're getting ready! I'm looking for housing and jobs up there now and already met some people from BYU that got accepted there as well.  Can't wait for Seattle to be our home for the next 4 years!

A Very Merry Christmas

This Christmas was such a magical one. Clark and I flew up to Spokane to visit Clark's family this year. It was the last year his whole family would be together for at least the next few years. Trey is leaving on his mission this summer and his brother Taft may leave before Trey gets home. So this Christmas was  so special for the whole Julian fam to be together. My mother in law, Stacy, is the most fun, creative loving person ever. She really made my first Christmas away from home definitely a memorable one. We made gingerbread houses, went Christmas shopping, visited with friends, and soaked the Christmas season all in! I feel like Washington snow is pretty different than Utah snow. While we were there, the snow would just lightly fall all day long. So magical! Christmas morning we had the sister missionaries over which is always so fun. Christmas morning, Stacy made Clark and I a Seattle scavenger hunt around the whole house. She gave us clues we had to solve relating to the history of Seattle. SO fun! What gave us all a good laugh, was the night before Christmas we all got our pajamas. Clark got thee big kid "truck themed" pajamas 😂 But we matched!

We flew home to Utah a few days after Christmas for work. We had the following couples days the next week for New Years off so Clark and I took a quick trip to Arizona to visit my family. It was sunny and warm and a perfect 75 degrees. We hiked Camelback, rode bikes around Scottsdale, worked out with my dad at the high school track, Clark and I rode our bikes to downtown Gilbert, visited families in the neighborhood and went to Spinatos with my friend Tori and her husband. Soo good to take advantage of the amazing weather before it warms up to 110 degrees next week ;)

FALL!

Ok I feel like Utah's falls are way over talked about, but it definitely lives up to all the hype. Fall in Utah is so beautiful. With all the mountains surrounding us, the leaves changing colors makes up for the weather changing. I'm starting to teach Clark that Halloween movies are a must all October long (even though he's only sat through Twitches so far :/) We made a few trips to the pumpkin patch last week, and plan on doing a few more Halloween activities this week since Halloween is on Tuesday! I'm pretty sure I think about our costumes all month, and then end up trying to pull something off last minute.

the last days of summer

There's quite a bit to catch up on since August. It's been a fun and exciting time. Recently, Clark has been hearing back from schools for dental school interviews. He first heard from Iowa, which he flew out and had the interview about a month ago. Last week we both drove up to Spokane and spent a day with his family, while the next day we drove to Seattle for another interview. Seattle is such a cool city, with so much to do. While Clark was at his interview, I walked around and toured the city, and spotted out potential places to live. My parents also met up with us there since they were at my cousin, Kendra's wedding in the Tri-Cities.  Then, we went to Clarks grandparents home in Carnation, WA. They sadly sold that home and so it was the perfect time for me to go and see it before they left. It's the most beautiful place ever. They live on a lake with the cutest house in the middle of this green, lush oasis. seriously. SO happy we made the trip to go see them. This weekend Clark is at UNLV at an interview, so my night consisted of shopping with my sisters and buying the new flavors of halo top to try :)

But we wanted to live up the last few weeks of summer before these interviews started up. So we made a trip to my favorite place, Bear Lake. We went with a couple of our friends and just camped and it was seriously so fun. I love it there. We also did our annual Timp hike. This time we made it in time in the season to see the wild flowers. So beautiful. We had friends weddings, and my twin sisters came up to PROVO for school! Now all four of us are up here, with Jessica being the last one at home. My parents might just need to get a little house up here when their visiting every other weekend :) Here's one too many pics of what we've been up to!

Our ONE year!

Yesterday was our one year anniversary! I think back on the year and it seems like it flew by in a second and other times I feel like I haven't ever lived without Clark. This year has been an exciting and crazy one! Went through a week of hospital stays after an emergency honeymoon stay for Clark, moved to two new apartments within the last year, lots of DAT studying, I graduated BYU, got a new job that I love, Clark took the DAT and applied to dental schools, made good friends, took some fun trips and lived our first year together!

We decided to go to the temple yesterday together, which is always so peaceful and brings us closer. We made reservations for the Roof restaurant in Salt Lake, so before we left the house to leave, Clark sat me down to watch a video he made for me. I was tearing up the whole time and I love having record of all our fun memories. We took our old clothes and took it to a consignment store to sell(one of my favorite things to do haha) and walked around City Creek before we went to the Roof. The Roof over looks Salt Lake and has the best buffet of food but even better dessert  bar. I was in heaven. Here's to a lifetime and an eternity of anniversaries! <3

Nauvoo, IL

A few weeks ago, we took a trip to Nauvoo, Illinois for the Hall family reunion. All 5 of the siblings and their families, and his grandparents met up in Kansas City Missouri. This was my first Hall family reunion! The Midwest is so beautiful! Everything is so green. It reminded me a lot of Chicago, when I lived there throughout elementary school. So I've visited Nauvoo a couple times when I was younger, but I didn't remember very much, and so it was so fun to be back. We visited a lot of church history sites including: Independence, Missouri; Liberty Jail, Nauvoo, Carthage Jail, and Far West.  Nauvoo is where the Saints first settled and were driven out by mobs to pack up all their belongings and head west. Seeing the town of Nauvoo and visiting all the homes of the Saints that lived there was such an awesome experience.  Back in the day it was a really developed community and it rivaled Chicago in population. We visited the Blacksmiths Shop ,the Red Brick Store, the Gunsmith store, the Printing Press, and many others. Seeing how much these people put into their community, I could see why it took that insane courage and faith to pack up and head west.  As a family, we were all able to attend the Nauvoo Temple. One of my favorite parts of the trip! Here, I learned that the end destination of the journey west, the Salt Lake City Temple, faces the Nauvoo Temple, where the Saints left off, making them "booking ends" of each other. You can read more here and here.

Newport Trip

Every summer my family takes a trip down to Newport, CA for a week. It is honestly one of my favorite weeks of the year. It is so laid back, with no schedules. The week consists of bikes rides down the boardwalk, daily stops at Seaside Donuts, riding the waves, shopping, finding good places to eat, a good amount of aloe vera, and walks to the 7/11 across the street for some DC (the cashier may or may not know us now). We got there the first day and went and explored Crystal Cove. Such a cute little beach town! We went and had milkshakes at Ruby's Shake Shack that overlooked the ocean. So pretty. Every morning, Clark and I would either go for a run down the boardwalk, or we did a little Insanity workout on the beach (we love our insanity gym class). My dad even came and did it with me one morning. Afterwards, we would go to the beach. We brought our boogie boards and we all just love to ride the waves in. My dad and Clark body surfed a lot too. They got pretty good at it I must say! Clark went and surfed one morning at Doheny with his friend Jake that is from that area.

Every night our family would ride our bikes down the boardwalk. We had my music speaker and would blast music as we were riding. Brittany was having the time of her life when the music blaring. She was dancing on her bike and swinging both of her legs from side to side on the bike. She's in her own little world sometimes haha. But it was hilarious and we love her. We grilled at our beach house and also ate out at some goood places. Some that I love down in Newport is Sessions. They have HUGE salads and really yummy sandwiches. Of course, I love Banzai Bowls. We went and tried Press Juicery. Not everyone in my family loved it, but I love frozen yogurt and this is just a healthier version of it! I really liked it. We also like to go to Great Mex. It's a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant by Balboa Pier. Great classic fast Mexican food.

Family vacations mean a little more to me now than before. The older I get, the more I realize that time isn't as slow as it always seemed. My twin sisters move up to Provo this year for school and that leaves my youngest sister the last one in the house. As everyone grows older and they go off and start on their own adventures, it makes it that much more special when we all get to be together. I love my sisters and as time goes on the more I realize that they are really my best friends and I am so glad I have four sisters to hang out with forever.

Update on Summer 2017

The purpose for me starting this blog was so that I record all our memories and have them all in one place. It's been almost a year since we've been married so I think it was about time! I'm excited to have life documented a little more. I just graduated from BYU and Clark still has one more year left of his undergrad, then off to dental school! In the meantime we'll be in Provo and we're just soaking up this stage of our lives. I'm making it a goal to keep up with this blog weekly and I have some things from this summer to catch up on!

So here we go!

Clark studied for the DAT consistently everyday since January and he took his flashcards everywhere. We went to the Provo pool and studied. Well, his hard work did pay off and he did really well!! After the DAT is when our summer really started.

Every Saturday morning downtown Provo has a farmers market and we can't miss it! It's so fun to see all the local brands and shops. Our favorite treat is the watermelon drink from PolyAsian Eats. It has vanilla ice cream mixed in and is the most delicious, refreshing drink ever!
