Nauvoo, IL

A few weeks ago, we took a trip to Nauvoo, Illinois for the Hall family reunion. All 5 of the siblings and their families, and his grandparents met up in Kansas City Missouri. This was my first Hall family reunion! The Midwest is so beautiful! Everything is so green. It reminded me a lot of Chicago, when I lived there throughout elementary school. So I've visited Nauvoo a couple times when I was younger, but I didn't remember very much, and so it was so fun to be back. We visited a lot of church history sites including: Independence, Missouri; Liberty Jail, Nauvoo, Carthage Jail, and Far West.  Nauvoo is where the Saints first settled and were driven out by mobs to pack up all their belongings and head west. Seeing the town of Nauvoo and visiting all the homes of the Saints that lived there was such an awesome experience.  Back in the day it was a really developed community and it rivaled Chicago in population. We visited the Blacksmiths Shop ,the Red Brick Store, the Gunsmith store, the Printing Press, and many others. Seeing how much these people put into their community, I could see why it took that insane courage and faith to pack up and head west.  As a family, we were all able to attend the Nauvoo Temple. One of my favorite parts of the trip! Here, I learned that the end destination of the journey west, the Salt Lake City Temple, faces the Nauvoo Temple, where the Saints left off, making them "booking ends" of each other. You can read more here and here.

^ The last night the cousins went down to the Mississippi River to try and catch fireflies! They are my most favorite thing to see ever.
